Little Sammy’s Visit to Dr. Grubb

August 7th, 2007

Sammy saw his pediatrician today for his 12 month check up. The doctor said he looked very healthy, said that he seemed like a very happy baby. He said that both the boys were really calm for boys, and that a lot of the boys that he sees in the office are very destructive. So hopefully Boy #3 is going to be calm too???

I mentioned to the doctor that both Patrick and Sammy seem to either be allergic to milk or have lactose intolerance, so he wants me to start giving them lactose free milk for a couple days, and see if they have a reaction. He wants to know the results of my experiment the next time he sees them. He said it sounds like they might be allergic to milk proteins, which would not be fixed by giving them Lactaid or other lactose free products. If so, I am going to have a lot of really bad diapers to change in the next few days. I myself have problems with milk products… I really should have asked if this is hereditary.

Sammy had to get one shot today. He was really brave about it. He fussed for less than a minute after it had happened, and gave us all a sad little frowny look, but by the time we had gotten back to the car he had totally forgotten that he had even had one. He’s a tough little man!!!

Now for Sammy’s growth. The doctor said he’s going to be on the small side. Apparently, since his last check up, his weight has slowed down (amazingly, because his appetite has almost tripled… but then again, he’s so much more active now). He’s in the 10th percentile for height though. He’s going to be short probably. He most definitely inherited this from me and the Feucht/Eggli side of the family. Sammy will always have a way to remember his great-grandma Feucht… she gave him the short gene!!! The kicker? HE HAS A BIG HEAD. Patrick’s head was always big too… so maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised. Too bad there’s no validity to the claim that big head= big brain, but maybe I’ll believe it anyways to give me consolation!!!

Height: 28 1/2 inches long (10th percentile)

Weight: 21 lb, 9 oz (25th percentile)

Head circumference: 19 inches (90th percentile)

In a way, Sammy being small has been a money saver. Maybe that’s not a good way to look at it, but if he had been average or above average, I would have had to go out and buy him a new summer wardrobe, because all of Patrick’s summer clothes were in the 6-9 M and 9-12 M sizes. All of Patrick’s old 12-18 M clothing is fall and winterish, and if Sammy wasn’t small, he really would be needing to wear that size right now. Patrick was wearing that size when he turned 1. So everything actually has worked out pretty nicely!

We love you, our little Sammy.

I Love Nesting!!!

August 6th, 2007

The past couple weeks I’ve suddenly found myself with energy to do some big projects to prepare for our new baby. First, we received Grandma’s old dresser, so I lined the drawers and put all of Patrick’s clothes into it. After I had done that, I realized that I had never finished lining the drawers and shelves in the kids’ bathroom (which I had planned to do over a year ago!!!), so I spent a whole day cleaning out the drawers, carefully lining them, and organizing all the toiletries, 1st Aid supplies, bath toys, etc. Once that was done, I organized the nursery dresser and lined and organized the nursery nightstand. After organizing the nightstand, I had the urge to crochet more baby burp cloths, so I could have a set of 9 new ones for the new baby. So far I have finished 5, and I’m busy working on another. To top it off, I finished painting a wooden name train. Andrew is going to spray it with a clear protective coating (since the fumes are bad for pregnant women), and then I’m going to pack it gently in a box and give it to our baby for his first Christmas present!

I just find it amazing how, after months of constant fatigue and morning sickness (plus all the work that goes into taking care of Patrick and Samuel), I manage to have any energy at all for these things that I was able to accomplish. I just love the nesting instinct, and I hope it continues to give me enough energy to complete some of these other projects that I’ve been putting off for months. I’d like to be totally prepared for the baby by the end of October because I have a feeling he might come early, and before he comes there are so many things I’d like to do. My next project is probably going to be organzing my bathroom drawer, because it’s a huge mess. I need to go to Target and see if they have any trays or storage solutions to hold all the little odds and ends I keep in that drawer. I also really need to clean it out because I never properly cleaned it after Patrick got into my lipstick and ate some of it!

Thank goodness for nesting!

(On the downside, I haven’t been taking ANY pictures, so if I get around to it, I’ll try to pull out the camera and give you all something more interesting to look at!!!)

Where has the time gone?  Life has changed so much in the past 4 years! With two precious little boys, and another one on the way, Andrew and I have experienced so many changes since August 1, 2003.

We’ve had our struggles and our difficulties along the way, but I can honestly say it’s been the best 4 years of my life. I wouldn’t give these years up for anything.

We look forward to seeing what plans God has in store for us as we continue to grow in our marriage!
