Patrick’s newest development: I ask him how old he is. He puts up 5 fingers and says “TWOOOO”! I’ve tried to teach him to hold down the other fingers using his thumb, but he hasn’t gotten the hang of it yet. At least he knows the right word to say!!!
Happy Easter, everyone! Today was a crazy, busy, wonderful day for us in the Flanagan family, and we had lots of fun celebrating Sammy’s first Easter. Grandma and Uncle Jonny came over to help us eat all the food that I made, but we missed poor Grandpa, who was on call and dealing with lots of crazy things at the hospital. Patrick had more sugar today than he usually gets in a month, so he was wired most of the day, and ended up crashing and going to bed early. This is going to be a really quick post… I have some pictures from the past few days which I’ll post later today or maybe tomorrow.
When I had my first experience browsing the internet, I have to say I wasn’t exactly that impressed… most of my friends didn’t have e-mail and there weren’t a lot of neat websites out there. Well, now I’m addicted. Today I discovered yet one more way that the internet makes life easier. Patrick and Sammy’s pediatrician now allows you to schedule your appointments online. Well, this morning I called to make an appointment for Sammy’s well-baby visit and while I was waiting to speak to a receptionist, they had those little voice ads playing while you’re on hold. This ad said you could schedule online. I didn’t know if it would be easier to register online or wait to have someone else do it, so, while I was still waiting on the phone, I managed to register an account, log in, and schedule the appointment. I finally hung up the phone right before I confirmed the appointment. I was just amazed how it was much easier to use their online interface than waiting and waiting to get the next available representative. The neat thing was that I was able to actually browse through several days and pick the date and time that worked best for my schedule. After I was done, they sent a nice e-mail reminder with confirmation code to my inbox. So I’m happy. I just wish making all appointments were that easy!!!
I think Sammy might have just recently developed a strange sort of separation anxiety. Lately, there are just certain times when I try to get Sammy to play by himself in the exersaucer, the playpen, the floor, etc, and he will immediately start crying at the top of his lungs as if he’s on the verge of death. Pick him up and he’s fine. The weird thing, though, is that he doesn’t care who is picking him up as long as he’s being held. He prefers Mommy and Daddy, but he’s fine in the nursery at church if someone is playing with him. But the moment I stick him somewhere to play by himself, he gets ANGRY. Sometimes he’ll be fine playing on the floor, but then he’ll see me and realize that I’m not holding him and begin throwing a major fit. Yesterday I put him in the nursery during Sunday School, and I almost felt bad because as soon as I got him in that exersaucer he was wailing at the top of his lungs. I put him a vibrating rocker chair, and he seemed to calm down, enough so that I took the chance to sneak out of the room. I have a feeling that the peace couldn’t have lasted for long, but I never bothered to ask. He was busy playing on the ground with several other babies when I came to pick him up, and he seemed happy mainly because he was sitting in the lap of one of the nursery attendants! Patrick was always a different story. He loved the nursery, from the time I began putting him in at 3 months. There was a time, for about a month, where he would cry when we first dropped him off, but as soon as he saw all the toys he’d forget about us and have fun. We use to have a hard time getting him to leave… Sammy, I can tell, is going to be different. As much as I love spending time with the little guy, sometimes it’s just not possible to give him the constant attention he wants. I hope this is just a phase that passes soon…
